Rikuto smiled as he put the amulet on. If he was to ever become a legendary seven swordsman, he would have to kill on instinct. And Most of all, Rikuto would have to know how to swim. "I'm ready." Rikuto said as his face became stern to face his fear.
ooc: excusez-moi for the late post, i swear it wasn't due to laziness this time x3
"I'm ready." Like a true shinobi, the genin masked his fear over a sturdy facade of fierceness. The jonin pulled the mask over his face leapt into the lake, firstly letting the arms of the black sea carry him down, and then gliding towards the seabed. He slowly gained momentum through the calm waters, ignoring the iciness that prickled through his clothing, looking about for the sea serpant. They usually habited the very bottom, basking in open patches of sand. Only the first few feet of the lake water that layered the rippling top were thickened with shadows, like icing on a birthday cake. Afterall, the avagrah needed to see clearly to navigate through his home! The thick blackness of the crest were used to conceal the indigo sea-serpant from his prey. It was peaceful in the fanthomage of the cold water, and Orochi soon spotted a flash of colour - a mirage of heliotroped wine, mulberry and lilac. He would lose no time. Placing foot upon the sandy seabed, the jonin twisted his fingers into a quick sequence of hand seals and slammed his hand against the floor of the lake. "Earth Release, Earth Style Dungeon." The twisting plethora of rich indigos and flowery lilacs was smashed against the lake bottom, soon enveloped and and helplessly tied against the ground in a prison of sand and coral. A few slivers of bare, scaly flank were exposed for the two genins to cut through. "Earth Release, Flying Stone Spires" and several shoots of coral moulded themselves into sharpened arrows. They shot themselves directly into the marbled honey eyes of the avagrah. It was now a helpless creature. Unable to yell out commands underneath the water with a gas mask, Orochi motioned at his apprentices to begin their part of the mission.

Romaji dove into the water with his gas mask already on, and reached in his back pocket for a kunai. He saw the avagrah in the distance and did his best to reach it before it could move. He had prepared a line of shuriken with a line running through them to use as a trap. He would place it in the sand, and wait for it to swim over it. As it did, he would pull, land on its side opposite to the shuriken, and pull with all his might, driving the blades deep into its skin. He began to take out the string and drop it, but holding on to the ends of the string. He kept a considerable distance, knowing getting too close would not only put him in unnecessary danger, but take away the angle needed for his plan to work.
Rikuto was last to dive into the water. His last cry for help was swallowed by the black water that now swallowed him. As he reached the bottom of the lake, he noticed that his sensei had already detained the Sea serpent. His eyes were slashed out already. So Rikuto went for the scales. He couldn't gulp, but his heart did it for him. He slashed down on the Avargath's back.
The orchid and violet coloured sea serpent writhed in pain as his golden eyes were shot. If the icy waters hadn't blossomed with the monster's thick blood, there would have gave gathered enough strength to break out of the sandy prison. It was in too much pain from the arrows embedded in its once-beautiful eyes. His serpentine skin was soon filled with fissures and carvings by the strokes of the two quick genins. Orochi was careful to watch over the two students in case of a mishap. He was proud of how Rikuto was handling his fear of swimming, and the sheer cleverness of Romaji. The wounds were potent, and the avagrah died with a soft moan. The haunting sigh of the lovely sea-creature filled through the lake water was though they were on land. Moments collected before the blood and grit settled back onto the sea-bed, where Orochi swam fluidly towards the avagrah to release his sand prison jutsu. The tightly coiled bars collapsed with a sort of grace only found underwater, and the sea-serpent laid battered with a nearly indistinguishable pelt from before. Its maw was slightly opened, and Orochi paused for a moment to marvel at his sharp teeth. White enough to shame a shark. As quickly as this moment came, it passed.
Orochi hauled the heavy serpent onto his shoulders and swam back up to the rippling surface of the frigid lake water, after giving his apprentices a small nod. The thick layer of blackness that coated the top was starting to ebb away, the onyx particles falling slowly down onto the floor of the lake. He rested the sea-serpant (noticing how it was only a few feet long, definitely a child that was meant to grow up into a larger and much dangerous avagrah) on the deeply floral shore of the lake. On his line of vision, Orochi saw that the clipped horizon was now tingeing soft copper and russet. Evening fall. The mentor waited for his students to surface the waters. The jonin removed his gas mask, letting his lungs fill deeply with the pure air that was laced with earthily blooming buds and leaves.

Romaji surfaced and saw Orochi carrying the beast on his shoulders. There was a quick pause in which he sat and wondered how it is that the avagrah had gotten into the lake. After thinking that perhaps he had jumped out from the ocean, he realized that if there was one, there was probably another. He did not concern himself with this, since he knew that the lake was empty. However, there were certainly more in the ocean, but he did not let that bother him.
Romaji swam to the edge of the lake where he pulled himself out of the water and removed his mask. There he saw into the eyes of the dead avagrah. Romaji thought, It was only a creature trying to survive, much like we do everyday. If it had killed anything, it was out of sheer necessity. It is a harsh life, outside of these walls that we make for ourselves. Everyday is a struggle for survival, while for us, everyday is a struggle to thrive. What they fight for, we are given. We take it for granted, and do not think twice of how hard it is to get.
Although I do not regret killing it, I do see how horrible of a life it is. Any day, it may grow hungry or be severely harmed. Romaji looked into the avagrah's eyes and saw the pain he had felt, not through its death, but through its life. He looked behind him, and saw that Rikuto had not surfaced yet.
Rikuto already took his mask off midway going up the waves of the water. By the time he reached the surface he swam to the side. That necklace came in handy. Rikuto didn't hear Romaji's speech. He took the necklace off and gave it to Orochi. "Thank you Sensei." Rikuto bowed. "Swimming isn't so bad as i thought it out to be." Rikuto smiled. His hat was lost in the depths of the water and his pink hair covered his sky blue eyes.

Romaji saw the avagrah on Orochi's back and was bewildered. "Such a strange creature", he thought. He was looking at it and wondered about its anatomy. Romaji often dissected and studied many animals, but nothing like this. This was a different breed of creature all together. He walked behind Orochi, looking, no, examining the creature. Its large scales and its long jaw were what interested him the most. There was no doubt that he wanted to study it, but he was unsure if he would be allowed. He began to ask, but no sound came out. He tried again, but to no avail. Finally, he spoke; Do... do.. do you think it would be possible for me to study this creature after the mission's over?
Orochi pocketed his returned amulet from his student with a nod, knowing that Rikuto had benefitted from gaining a little more self-confidence with the mission. "Well done, you two. The mission would have been less dangerous if long-range offensive moves were used, though. I'll teach you all some long range techniques tomorrow morning. A good night's sleep will help you recuperate." The jonin gathered a little bit of chakra, enough to barely coat his right hand in softly glowing blue, and worked through his dampened hair with the energy's heat. If only he could apply the drying technique to his whole sodden body, but it was time consuming. "Now that we've completed on slaying the avagrah, let's walk over to the commoner village and show the body as proof of completion. We'll be back home by nightfall." The deceased creature was lifted onto his broad shoulders into a comfortable position, although the weight of the sea-serpent was starting to send slight aches down his muscular frame. Even by death, the power to crush was shown in the young serpentine body. Something that Romaji seemed to marvel with deep curiousity, as the genin uttered, "Do... do.. do you think it would be possible for me to study this creature after the mission's over? " The jonin faced his student after a moment, taken by slight surprise. "Of course." Orochi murmured softly, running a hand across a deeply colourful scale – it was mixed with hues of lilac and lavender that were soft and ashy at the same time. It was only parted by a deep fissure made through the strong flesh, and the wound oozed lightly of black blood. "Are you interested in zoology? I'm afraid you may not be able to harvest the strength of the serpent, it's embedded in its DNA."

I know, It's just that I find most creatures fascinating and avagrahs are pretty rare. I what to study its chakra network, skeletal and muscular structure, and nervous system. I've always been interested in biology in general. perhaps i'll be able to find a more efficient component in its anatomy than our own. We posses a superior chakra network and nervous system, but it possesses a superior skeletal and muscular structure. this would allow me to understand how muscles can be most efficiently used, allowing me to develop more powerful taijutsu. Romaji stared blindly into Orochi's eyes, wondering if he had gone too far with his intellectuality and caused a space to form in his new bond with Rikuto. Although he did not move his eyes from Orochi, he used his peripheral vision to check for any negative reaction in Rikuto.
Rikuto just walked behind the two of them. He finally conquered his fear of swimming and finished his first mission. If this was how being a ninja was going to be for the rest of his life, then Rikuto would have a great life. Though Rikuto still had questions. "What about the third member of our team?" Rikuto asked.
Strange that the acute genin was so interested in zoology, when his last team had been nearly wiped out by a league of chakra-eating bugs. Perhaps the mental illness of intense survivor's guilt was still eating at the dregs of his young mind, maybe he thought that he could have saved his team if he knew more about the insects. He knew what that terrible feeling was like, how it consumed your soul and time, how he wished that time could turn back just once for him to fix everything. Subconciously, the jonin patted the scroll pocket were Hotaru's charm bracelet was stowed away. An odd twinge jutted itself against the jonin's belly - a sort of instinct that told him that somebody was watching. Surprise flashed through the jonin's body as he realized that Romaji was closely watching his teacher for any reaction. In turn, Orochi placed his line of vision at his apprentice. His steady pace did not slow as his brazen reply was, "You're a shrewd one. Interested in both biology and human psychology?" He didn't mean to unnerve the genin, though. Children always seemed to have a craziest dreams. "You'll need to preserve the avagrah in formaldehyde once you return home though, a decayed body won't help much with your studies. Seeing and comparing the muscular structure of a similar animal, like a common snake, will help you prepare too. This avagrah is much heavier than he really looks." He knew that the inexperienced genin would barely be able to scratch the surface of capturing the strength of the sea-serpent's muscles - true scientists who spent their years were barely able to study the keikei genkai of the corpses of their dead enemies. "What about the third member of our team?" The hopeful voice of Rikuto filled the air. "I'm not sure, Kirigakure is a tiny place afterall." He placed his burnished copper eyes away from Romaji as he answered the other apprentice, who didn't seem as interested in intellectual pursuits. His reply was honest, "But you won't be able to enter the chuunin exams with only a two man group. I'll ask the Mizukage once we collect our payments." A female would help balance out the group nicely, Orochi knew that another male on the team would be troublesome.

Kiryuu had been watching the group from afar, observing and judging their skills they demonstrated during the mission; all whilst he was having a smoke. He had been assigned to this team... what was the count now? He wondered, trying to come up with a number for all the teams he has been on before moving onto another. He had always been rather bad at first impressions, often causing their very first meeting to go badly. Though after a scolding of the Mizukage, he had become rather determined not to cause any trouble to the team; at least try not to. He didn't think much of the fighting prowess of the Genin of the team, though he supposed that they were only Genin after all. "Bad thoughts..." he muttered to himself, he had always done so whenever he demeaned someone or the like. As if recognizing them would chase them away to the abyss whence they came. He took a final puff of smoke before throwing it on the ground, which then he proceeded to appear before them with the Body Flicker Technique. He didn't bother to stomp on the cigarette, thinking that the dampness of the land would be enough to cease its ability to create a forest fire.
With a sudden 'poof' of smoke, he had appeared a few feet behind the two Genin; thinking it would be more respectful by appearing before the Jounin instead. He had kept this distance in order to not disturb them with his 'static' like ability, as it does irritate others who aren't used to it. Despite whether the Genin or the Jounin had realized that he was amongst them, he spoke out with his deep voice. Intending of introducing himself to the others; a straightforward and simple introduction. "Matsukata, Kiryuu. I shall be part of this team from henceforth. I apologize for my absence during the mission. It won't happen again. He looked at all three with a rather lazy expression, convinced that they would part ways soon enough. You were always a bad child... always tardy and the odd one in a group. Its no wonder they always leave you. The Rokubi spoke with his mother's voice, though even slightly agitated, he kept his expression. He didn't need this. He then awaited for them to acknowledge his existence.

Romaji, stopped, bewildered by the sudden presence of the stranger. He looked from the corner of his eyes as he turned until he finally faced the stranger. He analyzed his every feature, noticing that there was dark coloring under his fingernails, signs of smoking. This was strange to him since Kiryuu was only slightly younger. He saw his apathetic look and wondered if he even wanted to be here. Hello, my name is Romaji.
Rikuto was startled by the sudden appearance of their third member. If was only seconds ago that they were talking about going to the Mizukage to request him. Though they were out of Village boundaries and anything could happen. Rikuto swung his blade at Kiryuu, stopping it right at his chin. Skipping the introduction, Rikuto opened his mouth. "Explain Yourself." Rikuto frowned. Something didn't seem right about this new guy, and the coincidence behind the situation.
